The “12 Days of Christmas” series continues today on my blog! For the third day of Christmas, I have another traditional recipe—Shortbread Cookies! This Shortbread Cookie recipe has been passed down in my family for generations and was originally developed by my great-grandma. I have never met her, but I know that she would be happy with me sharing her recipe with all of my readers. However, I bet she would have never imagined that I would share it over the internet 😛 I have had many shortbread cookies before and I can definitely say that this one is, hands down, the best I have ever had. I am not just saying that because it is my family recipe, I truly mean it. Sometimes, shortbreads can be too light and crumbly. Sometimes they are overpoweringly sweet. Chocolate Rudolph Cookies

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen. Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen. But do you recall, the most famous reindeer of all? It is the second day of the #12DaysOfChristmas series and do I ever have the perfect holiday cookie for you! These chocolate and cherry cookies are named after Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, the true star and hero of Christmas. In my household, Christmas just isn’t Christmas without these Chocolate Rudolph Cookies. My mom got this recipe from a Christmas Cookie magazine in the 90’s and she has been making them ever since. These fudgy chocolate cookies have a chewy, brownie-like base and are adorned with bright Maraschino cherries (to look like Rudolph’s nose). The richness of the cocoa combined with the sweetness of the Maraschino cherry is an unexpected flavor combination for the holiday season, but it works so well! Chai-Poached Quince

If we want to talk about seasonal fruit, then the quince reigns supreme in the autumn months. At first glance, the quince may look like little, mis-grown pear, however, it is so much more than that and it has tons of amazing uses in the kitchen. One of this fruits great uses in the autumn is this recipe for Chai-Poached Quince. Before I give you a run-down on my recipe, let me tell you a bit more about the quince fruit. For the most part, this is an unknown fruit to most Canadians as it is difficult to find and is highly seasonal. I actually hadn’t tried quince ever (other than quince jam) until earlier this autumn…and boy, have I been missing out! Quince can actually be grown in B.C. and are in season from September to early November. Quince are a soft yellow in colour and are covered in a hefty layer of greyish-yellow fuzz when they grow. Honeyed Greek Yogurt with Blueberry Jam

#BCBlueberryWeek continues today with a healthy, blueberry-filled breakfast recipe. This recipe for Honeyed Greek Yogurt with Blueberry Jam is so sweet and delicious that it could almost be a healthy dessert rather than a breakfast! Even though this is a simple and straightforward recipe, the combination of ingredients are set to stand the test of time. Honey, lemon and blueberries are commonly used in breakfast recipes and are considered a classic combination for a reason. Yep..those are real blueberry leaves! I opted to add the honey and lemon directly into the Greek yogurt, rather than the blueberry jam itself so that the flavours do not cook out or fade during the cooking process. Plus, Greek yogurt can sometimes be tangy (perfectly complimented by the lemon zest), but are sometimes bland overall, so the addition of honey and lemon really makes it taste so much better. We are in the height of blueberry season right now in BC and I just can’t get enough of these delicious sweet berries.  I actually enjoy blueberries so much that I bought not one, but TWO five-pound boxes of these sweet little berries to indulge in before the season is over! Strawberries have just come back into season and that can only mean one thing: summer is on the way! I am so excited to start making (and experimenting with) some new summer recipes for you all! As the days have been warming up, I have been preparing for the shift in seasons by checking out local markets and doing some online research to see what is or will be coming into season in the next month or so as we roll into summer. Fresh peas, spinach, turnips, and garlic are all early signs of summer, however, I always know that when you start to see local strawberries at market that times are changing. It’s been a while since I have done a party post on the blog and I have missed it so much! I love throwing parties and entertaining guests in my home. I love all the preparation and organization that goes into throwing a party such as preparing the food, decorating the table, mixing drinks…I just love it! Chocolate-Hazelnut Mousse

This year, I am celebrating Valentine’s Day with my favourite sweet treat: Nutella. Growing up in an Italian family, Nutella was definitely one of my most favourite treats as a kid. I would have it on about anything: on ice cream, straight out of the jar with a spoon (the best way), with cookies, but mainly spread across warm toast with some fresh sliced strawberries. Yum! I thought that this Valentine’s day would be a perfect way to bring my childhood favourite treat back into my life, but with an adult twist in my recipe for Chocolate-Hazelnut Mousse. While making homemade mousse may seem daunting and complex, there are just a few ingredients involved in this recipe and it is relatively easy if you plan ahead (and maybe if you have an electric mixer). Gluten-Free Chocolate-Peppermint Crinkle Cookies

With Christmas just around the corner, I thought I would share some tasty Christmas cookie recipes with you all. For me, Christmas just isn’t Christmas without making tons of cookies. I love to make a variety of cookies, some traditional shortbread cookies, jam cookies, chocolate cookies and some fun cookies that I used to make as a kid with my mom. It really brings back such nice memories 🙂 For this Christmas, I thought I would do a spin on a traditional Chocolate Crinkle Cookie by adding one of my favourite winter flavours: peppermint! I can’t seem to get enough peppermint these days. I’ve run through three boxes of peppermint tea so far and I love adding a splash of peppermint extract to my hot chocolate. It’s so refreshing and really wakes up your senses! You can find peppermint extract at any grocery store these days, but try to find an organic one. I find the organic peppermint extracts are much more flavourful and have that less processed taste compared to regular peppermint extract. This …
