Valentine’s Day Crêpes: Two Ways

When you think of Valentine’s Day, you probably associate it with lots of sweets like candy chocolate. While I do enjoy the occasional sweet treat, I do prefer to eat more savory foods, even on Valentine’s Day.  This year, I wanted to try to make a savory recipe that can easily be adopted and be made sweet if desired. When I was thinking of recipes to make, I was trying to go for dinner recipes and dessert recipes. Both of these were a little difficult to create a recipe with a sweet and savoury version, so I decided to make a breakfast/brunch recipe instead. I think this works out so well because everyone enjoys a delicious breakfast! Crêpes are an incredibly versatile recipe since they are simple to make, have a relatively neutral flavour, but can be filled with different fillings or toppings. Plus since they’re French and super romantic, I thought this would be the perfect recipe for Valentine’s Day! For my savoury crêpe recipe, I made a Croque Madame Crêpe. This crêpe has …

Chocolate-Hazelnut Mousse

This year, I am celebrating Valentine’s Day with my favourite sweet treat: Nutella. Growing up in an Italian family, Nutella was definitely one of my most favourite treats as a kid. I would have it on about anything: on ice cream, straight out of the jar with a spoon (the best way), with cookies, but mainly spread across warm toast with some fresh sliced strawberries. Yum! Plus, it turns out wonderfully if you use the freshest and best available ingredients that you can find—which is particularly important in this recipe. But once everything is combined and is light and fluffy, you will have a lush, decadent, chocolatey …

Vancouver Sugar Cookies

This Valentine’s Day I am celebrating my seven year anniversary. No, this anniversary is not with a special person, rather with a place- and that place is Vancouver, British Columbia. I fell in love with the city of Vancouver and the west coast in 2010 from watching the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. Apart from the amazing athletes and that final Men’s hockey game (what Canadian will ever forget that?), my breath was completely taken away by the beauty of the city and its surrounding environment. From the snow-capped mountains to the sparking ocean and the lush forests to the Glass City, I fell completely in over my head, out-of my-mind in love with the city’s urban yet wilderness-like vibe. This was all complete infatuation. I never visited the city before let alone the west coast of Canada. I had fell in love with the city just from watching the Olympic coverage on TV and from the deep, soulful tourism commercials that were shown between events (way to go Destination BC- they worked). In 2010, I …
