Maple Bacon Shortbread Cookies

Have you ever heard of bacon in cookies? It seems like a completely outrageous concept… but after lots of testing, I can say that these cookies are amazing and definitely worth a try this holiday season. For the 8th day of my #12DaysOfChristmas series, I give you my Maple Bacon Shortbread Cookies. If you recall, a few posts back, I wrote out my grandma’s famous Shortbread Cookie recipe. This Maple Bacon Shortbread Cookies use the same base recipe, just with a little less sugar and more bacon 😛 These cookies feature two of my favourite local Vancouver Island products and they just so happen to compliment each other perfectly! Local Bacon In this recipe, I use my favourite local bacon from Red Barn Markets. This bacon is always cut to the perfect thickness and has just the right amount of smoky and sweet flavour. I enjoy this bacon on just about anything, but I never thought to put it into cookies until I was developing my recipes a few months back. Just as I suspected, the …

Shortbread Cookies

The “12 Days of Christmas” series continues today on my blog! For the third day of Christmas, I have another traditional recipe—Shortbread Cookies! This Shortbread Cookie recipe has been passed down in my family for generations and was originally developed by my great-grandma. I have never met her, but I know that she would be happy with me sharing her recipe with all of my readers. Or sometimes, there is no flavour to them at all. That is not the case here. These Shortbread Cookies are on the firmer side and crumble perfectly in your mouth—the texture is on point! I suspect that this comes …

Fall For Local Spring Pop-Up Shop

If you are always on the hunt for new and interesting foods, decor and entertaining supplies like I am, local markets are the place to be. Vancouver has a few rotating markets that are held throughout the year such as Got Craft, Refresh, Etsy, and Make It, plus there is a whole swath of seasonal farmers markets across the city. All of these markets are always incredibly popular, and their popularity is a great sign that these markets are here to stay. I mean hey, who doesn’t like to shop for wonderful (and very unique) hand-crafted items, all while supporting local artists and the local economy?  I definitely do- and have really tried to support local since moving to Vancouver. While all of our local products are amazing in their own right, I really tend to appreciate them a lot more since I (most-likely) got to chat with the actual person who made them and hear their story behind it! Now that is something that just doesn’t happen too often nowadays, but regardless I am happy that we are …
