Valentine’s Day calls for a romantic chocolate dessert, and what is more romantic than a chocolate mousse?
While traditional mousse desserts are made with gelatin and require a few complex steps to get that perfect light texture, I have come up with a much easier version that tastes just as good! Basically, if you can make whipped cream and melt chocolate, you can make this dessert!
This recipe is also easily customizable in terms of garnishes, and you can finish it with and fruit, cookies, nuts, or other garnishes that will suit you (and your loved one’s) taste. Read on down below and watch the video on how to make this Easy 3-Ingredient Chocolate Mousse this Valentine’s Day!
Recipe developed in collaboration with Langley Farm Market.

Why This Is the Perfect Valentine’s Day Dessert
Chocolate mousse is a timeless and classic French dessert. It’s silky, luxurious, and had a great chocolate flavour. Here is why I love making this for Valentine’s Day:
- It only requires three ingredients for the mousse itself: whipping cream, chocolate, and coffee
- There is no gelatin, no complicated steps, and no baking (obviously)
- It can be made ahead and chilled until you are ready to serve
- You can customize it with garnishes to match your taste
You can serve it in individual glass cups and garnish it with a variety of toppings. I chose to make chocolate-covered strawberries, some chocolate drizzled cookies, and a fresh sprig of mint for a pop of colour.
Achieving a Rich Chocolate Flavour
Even though this recipe is minimal, there are two small details that make it truly special.
1. A Touch of Coffee
Adding a small splash of coffee to melted chocolate enhances its flavour without making the mousse taste like coffee. It simply deepens the chocolate notes and makes everything richer and more complex. You will not taste the coffee directly. You will just notice that the chocolate tastes better!
2. Mixing Dark and Milk Chocolate
Instead of choosing between dark or milk chocolate, I like to use both. The dark chocolate adds depth and intensity, while the milk chocolate adds sweetness and creaminess. It truly gives you the best of both worlds!

Easy 3-Ingredient Chocolate Mousse (No Gelatin) – Perfect for Valentine’s Day
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup whipping cream
- 100 g dark chocolate
- 100 g milk chocolate
- 1 teaspoon strong brewed coffee
- 2 strawberries
- 2 egg roll cookies (or your favourite cookie)
- 2 sprigs fresh mint
Instructions
Melt the Chocolate
- Add both chocolates and the coffee to a heatproof bowl set over a pot of gently simmering water (a double boiler). The steam from the water will slowly and gently melt the chocolate. Stir until the chocolate is melted and smooth, then remove from heat and let it cool for about 5 minutes.
Whip the Cream and Add Chocolate
- While the chocolate cools, whip the cream using a hand blender or stand mixer until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
- Once the chocolate has cooled slightly, add 3/4 of it into the whipped cream. Save the remaining 1/4 for the garnishes. Using a spatula, gently fold the chocolate into the cream until fully combined. Take your time here so you keep as much air in the mixture as possible. That air is what makes the mousse light and fluffy.
Chill and Garnish
- Spoon the mousse into serving cups, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set.
- Before serving, decorate with the chocolate-dipped strawberries, chocolate-drizzled egg roll cookies, and a sprig of fresh mint. Enjoy!
Notes
- This recipe makes two generous portions, which is perfect for Valentine’s Day. You can easily divide the recipe to feed 4 if you use smaller cups or serving bowls.
